AARP's Caregiving expert shares tips on how to provide life care for your loved ones

Amy Goyer, AARP Family & & Caregiving Expert, and author of Juggling Life, Work, and Caregiving, has been providing caregiving advice for over 35 years. A passionate champion for caregivers, she has been a family caregiver her entire adult life, first for her grandparents, then for her sisters and parents.

In this episode of Baby Boomers in America, Amy Goyer talks about the challenges facing family caregivers today and shares tips and resources to help them cope with the demands of being a caregiver. There are over 40 million family caregivers across the U.S. today providing unpaid care to their parents, spouses, partners, and other loved ones. These caregivers are providing the bulk of care for older people, helping them with shopping, bathing, dressing, preparing meals, transportation, managing finances, wound care, and managing medications.

Better support for family caregivers is among the most significant overlooked challenges facing our rapidly aging U.S. population and society. In today’s world, families cannot be expected to provide an array of complex care and support on their own.

AARP believes that we need a national strategy now to support family caregivers so that people can continue living in their homes and communities for as long as they choose.
